A Commitment for Life
Hope Village's adoptive parents will go through stringent screening and background checks, including fingerprinting and in-depth interviews.
The parents will be licensed by the state and go through rigorous training. At Hope Village, they will expect to keep the children that come to them.
All parents will bring their own biological and adopted children with them as well, so some families may end up raising six or seven children. In support of this long-term commitment, each family will receive rent-subsidized housing.
There will be per-child subsidies for schooling, food, or clothing, as in standard foster care programs.
Hope Village residents will span at least three generations. Families with children and older adults constitute the right mix to develop the necessary level of proficiency in its capacity to care for and support its residents.
The expertise of professional staff will be available for a wide range of managerial and programmatic functions; however, staff practice will be characterized by relationship building and consent rather than control.
Hope Village will be adaptive and able to respond to the changing needs of its members, as well as to insights gained from ongoing research and practice.
Hope Village will look and feel like any other healthy community. The more it blends in with the larger community in which it is situated, the less the stigma associated with the need it serves.
