She was a governor appointee to the State School Readiness Board, Health Implementation Team (2003-2007) and to Arizona Early Intervention Programs’ advisory board (1996-2001). She was a state consultant for Arizona’s Newborn Follow-up Program (1999-2003).
Dr. Blitz has received grants to establish a Developmental Center for Foster and Adopted Children at St. Joseph’s Hospital (2001), to pilot a health passport program for children entering foster care (2001), and to create the Developmental Clinic at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (1997). She has participated in specialty trainings on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Early Brain and Child Development, and Autism assessment. She has participated on the Southwest Craniofacial Team and has worked in programs for drug-exposed infants and their families. She participated in the Mesa Community’s Call to Action, as one of their keynote speakers, and received the Betty Kerr Volunteer of the Year Award. In 2004, she was awarded the YWCA Tribute to Women Award in Science and Research.
Dr. Blitz’s clinical interests include the special needs of foster and adopted children, in utero alcohol and drug exposure, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and comorbidities, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, learning disabilities, the care of premature infants, and children with multiple developmental disabilities.
